The wedding was fairytale-esque. Much dancing, many dresses, a total absence of picture taking because I've never been much good at that kind of thing. Summer camp people are epic and difficult to explain. America feels different right now, at least where I went. In some ways good, the era of GW-apologists is rapidly over, but in other ways a little disconcerting. There's been a cultural shift since my last visit, in the long term maybe a good thing, in the short term maybe not.
For various reasons, it was an ideal spring break, other than the whole non-tropical aspect, which is negotiable if you inhale deeply enough.
The exchange rate made sure to suck specifically for the four days I was there. CONSPIRACY. However, I did have a cheeseburger with the cheese cooked inside the burger that was life affirming.
I had been kind of on the fence about a Labour Day reunion but think I'll look at going. I wish my flight back to Canada was via JFK so I could Amtrak it. The major obstacles include: (1) telling R I'm delaying getting back by another week and not spending the long weekend with him, (2) how much taking three months off is in reality as opposed to in my tidy spreadsheet projections, (3) when a hypothetical new job wants me to start work. Uh.
Plans. My roommate is not going to be continental when I am, which is actually good because the country she's moving to (for the whole quasi NGO project) is really far inland and would have meant a significant amount of detour time to reach, i.e. probably a lot of harsh overland buses. However, it's looking more and more like the E will join me for two weeks over her holidays in August AND I just noted today more people I know stateside are looking at spending a couple months back in town. I'm obviously beyond stoked about this and it also makes me feel less crazy.
Because the E is coming I have to think about how best to spend two weeks in SA, how to show someone a country I'm so enamoured with. Extensive city hopping is unreasonable. It might be a good opportunity to see some stuff I've never covered.
Tallied:
41 Days in my office
53 Days in this city
94 Days to departure
