and so it goes.

Devised yesterday, from ingredients in my kitchen.

Canadian Winter Pie
1 can beer (cheap domestic)
1 potato (yukon gold)
1 onion (yellow)
1 lb ground pork (lean)
1 double pie crust
Cinnamon
Oil

Cook onions in oil until clear in stock pot, starting to brown. Add can of beer plus chopped potato - smaller pieces cook faster, we don't own a peeler so I left the skin on. Cover and cook on high, stirring sometimes. In frying pan, brown pork with cinnamon. When potatoes are tender, dump pork into stock pot on top, do not mix in yet, cook for awhile. Preheat oven to 350. Mix ingredients of stock pot together, breaking up potatoes. Put in pie crust, possibly brush with egg/milk, cook for 30-45 minutes until golden brown.

Beer + Meet + Potato + Pie = win? Countries that eat pies as fast food, as in generally meat pies but also savory pies of any kind, will always have my affections.

This article is kind of obvious yet aspirational. Capers, sweet potatos and miso are the most magical foods...
