Winter causes visible disheartening; a cold snap makes everyone grimmer. Today is a warm good excuse to walk somewhere and do something, even if it's gray. I sit on my bed under the covers with fake heat spilling from the ceiling.
My friend was de-asked to be a bridesmaid, the wedding in less than two weeks, and another reason marriage scares me tallies up. We were going to make tshirts that said No One Cares About Your Wedding Except You to start spreading the gospel.
Yesterday I was at a grocery store, which are completely out of hand in this country, and I was reading labels, a preoccupation which has expanded from ingredients to point of production. Produce that has had to cross oceans is off the list, fresh winter tomatoes from Mexico are a compromise. This morning I verified the environmental policy of a nearby chocolate company online.
I was talking about this with my roommate and she said, "life in this country is hard, so I make sure I have good food." As in, she is unconcerned where it comes from. Aside from the laughable idea that life in this country is hard, especially for us, I would like to point out that she sweetens her food with Splenda.
You cannot love food and use fake sweetener.
